He talks about front leg being straight instead of being bent. I have heard to keep front leg bent and this allows you to still drive a ball if you are fooled or out in front, allowing you to still turn. If front leg is staight will that not lock your hips?

I agree with warren I heard other coachs and I teach to have a slight bend to the front leg.

I think coach Paul explains it perfectly. To hit with maximum power, the front leg has to lock. It makes the top-hand hip turn into the ball quicker and makes your head stay back...which in turn makes the bat travel more squarely and faster through the hitting area over the plate. If you're just trying to get the ball in play, the bent front knee does allow you to have more control on off speed pitches, but be prepared to lose power.
